Privacy Policy for Virtual Gears¶
Last updated: 8 August 2026
The short version¶
Virtual Gears does not collect anything about you. Nothing is sent anywhere, because the app has no way to send anything anywhere.
What the app stores¶
Virtual Gears remembers a few things on your iPhone so you don't have to set them up again each ride:
- Which trainer you last used, so it can reconnect on its own.
- Which gears you chose.
- Which optional shift controller or Headwind fan it should reconnect to.
These stay on your iPhone. Deleting the app deletes them.
Demo Mode uses a separate in-memory setup. Its simulated equipment and gear choices are discarded when you leave the demo and are not written over the equipment or gears saved for real rides.
What the app does not do¶
- No accounts. There is nothing to sign up for.
- No internet. The app contains no networking code at all. It cannot upload anything, because there is nothing in it that talks to a server.
- No tracking, no analytics, no advertising. No third-party code of any kind is bundled in the app.
- No location. The app never asks for your location.
- No health or fitness records. Your power, speed and cadence pass through the app from your trainer to the app you ride with, and are never written down.
Bluetooth¶
The app asks for Bluetooth permission because that is how it works: it connects to your trainer, optional shift buttons and optional fan, and it appears as a trainer to the app you ride with on your computer. Bluetooth is used only for that. iOS requires this permission for any app that uses Bluetooth; it is not used to determine where you are.
Children¶
The app collects no data from anyone, including children.
